83. The Web Planet

“Well, well, well… That is remarkable. Gracious, during all my travels, I don’t think I’ve ever come across this. Magical. Isn’t it extraordinary?”

Without a doubt, and despite being a bold experiment that didn’t always quite work, The Web Planet is a remarkable, magical, and extraordinary Doctor Who story. This book contextualises the serial historically and culturally as a product of early 1960s experimental television. It examines the ways in which it utilised the audio-visual technologies of its time, how it incorporated different aspects of performance practice such as puppetry and physical theatre, and how it encoded the socio-cultural concerns of its cultural moment.
